Bet with Mates

This project is a strategic idea proposed to Bet Easy in effort to add a competitive element to the mobile application. This idea brought to light the concept of allowing users bet against each other in the app, having the opportunity to see what their mates are betting on, chatting via the app and having a final leaderboard showing who was the best punter of the round.
My role: I was the sole designer for this project, conducting all the process from research to conception, and visualisation, working closely to the Performance Test Manager (creator of the idea), Product Manager and Research team.
Overview
At the time (2018), Bet with Mates was a new concept in the market, so we didn't find any other competitors reference about a similar experience.
To collect a certain amount of existing evidence and inspiration around the side of gamification for the app, we've referred to existing games where the user would also need to create a room for playing with friends.
Competitor Analysis
The Bet with Mates project was made to allow punters to set up game rooms where they can define how many participants can be in the game, what amount of money will be in the pot, which events they will be betting on.
There is no more need to go to a bar or to a venue – everything is here in the user’s mobile phone allowing the participants to be in the same Game Room via the internet.
Bet with mates follows the strategic initiatives:
- It is aimed to activate new clients and reactivate old ones.
- It is genuinely an exclusive and innovative product.
- It supports the Mobile-First initiative.
Main user flow of creating a game:
Solution & Foundation

Throughout the process of designing user journeys, I developed an extensive collection of wireframes aimed at facilitating initial functional testing. This effort led to a significant influx of ideas about how to optimise the user interface layout and improve transitional behaviours. The wireframes served as a critical tool, providing a tangible representation of the design and functionality.
As a result, they not only allowed for effective testing but also generated a wealth of creative solutions and enhancements, offering new perspectives on how to refine user interactions and streamline the overall interface experience.
Wireframes
Leveraging the company's style guide and design system, I meticulously incorporated all components following a consistent structure to ensure a cohesive visual flow with the existing features of the current application.
This approach was intended to seamlessly integrate the new feature, ensuring that it harmonizes with the established elements and provides users with a sense of continuity. By adhering to the same design principles, the new feature blends naturally with the other elements, offering a familiar experience while introducing an innovative addition to the application. This thoughtful integration not only preserves the visual integrity of the app but also enhances user satisfaction by maintaining a unified and intuitive interface.
High-Fidelity

With a project of this size and completely innovative, the risks of developing a feature that may not be well accepted or used were too big. So, since this initiative at the time was totally new to the market, the idea was to finalise high-fidelity designs and get customer feedback to validate the project.
Unfortunately, during this time of getting customer feedback for this project, Bet Easy company was acquired by Sportsbet, so this project was paused. Sportsbet 2 years later launched a similar feature also called Bet with Mates.
